CIFA Women’s Committee Appointed
The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) has appointed
the Women’s Committee, responsible for the promotion
and encouragement of women’s football development
at both district and national levels in the Cayman Islands.
CIFA President Jeffrey Webb outlined CIFA’s new
direction for Women’s Football stating that, “The
Women’s Committee will oversee the overall development
of women’s football and will be responsible to
formulate programs and a development plans that encourages
women’s involvement in the sport. Their number
one function will be to institute and implement development
programs for women.”
He further elaborated that developing such a program
is not only about scheduling more matches and having
more players on the field but also about developing
administration, coaching and referees.
Chairperson, Therese Goddard is thrilled by the impact
this will have on women’s football. “This
is a new era for Cayman football and I am very honoured
to be a part of such an important aspect of our development.”
She added, however, that the committee needs everyone’s
support and looks forward to working with the community.
In addition to Ms. Goddard the committee consists of
four dedicated women who are also football players.
They are Sabrina Leacock – Deputy Chairperson
responsible for marketing and finance, Patria Wood –
Secretary, Cherry Ann Whittaker – Technical Development
Coordinator, and Nathalee Curtis – responsible
for competitions.
To start off the year the committee is currently making
initial preparations for the U15 girl’s league
and finds it encouraging that the schools and girls
contacted thus far are excited and ready to go. Also
on the agenda is an U19 National Women’s program,
scheduled to kickoff early next year and some involvement
in CIFA’s U12 youth league.
