U19 Qualifiers this weekend

Football action kicks off this weekend on Friday night at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex between Cayman and Jamaica, in the CONCACAF Women’s U19 World Championship Qualifiers.

The matches are scheduled for the Sports Complex at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.

National Women’s Coach Thiago Cunha says in preparation for these matches his primary focus has been on fitness. “ The Jamaica team is very fit, that is the main difference between us right now.”

Hoping for a better performance than the Women’s Olympic team in December, who successfully held the Jamaican side to nil all until the rain came, Coach Cunha is also building on the players psyche. “ We train almost every day, field, beach and gym. We have done a little bit of sports psychology with the girls as well to prepare them for the mental side of the game.”

To add a little spice to the pot the National Senior Men’s Team will also take on Portmore United Saturday and Sunday evening. Saturday’s match is scheduled for the Annex at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday’s match after the U19 women’s match at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
