Soca meets Punta on Ash Wednesday

For all you FA Cup fans that have followed the knock out competition and waited patiently the grand finale is finally here. Soca meets Punta - GTSC vs. Latinos - on the football field at the T.E. McField “Annex” Football Field at 7:00 p.m. on February 25th.

Latinos F.C., the team that has taken a new direction and surprised every one this season, will make its debut in its first big CIFA finale since the teams inception. Latinos Vice President Miguel Brown says that this is something the team has been waiting for for a long time. For sure the fans are just as excited as the team is.

Known for its position at the bottom of the standings in previous seasons Latinos jumped right to the top with a new Cuban coach, Juan Rives and club President, William Connolly this season. They have been a force to be reconed with on the field, blowing like a hurricane through their opponents.

For GTSC taking home the Cup would be a big victory. They were bumped out of the competition last season by BTFC who won 3-1on penalties in the semi final round.

The women will also get in on the action when both West Bay Clubs Future FC and Scholars International clash at 4:30 p.m. in battle for the coveted title.

Scholars missed it last year when GTSC’s Joni Ebanks seized an opportunity in the closing minutes of the game scoring the only and winning goal. Scholars’ lapse in concentration cost them the satisfaction of taking home both the FA and DHL National League Cups at the close of the 2002-03 season.

This season’s results are more than pleasing to Future FC who missed the title when Scholars beat them 4-1 in the semi-final round last year. With a team of mostly agile 15 and 16 year olds this is their chance to show their true colours. It is true that Scholar’s women’s team carries an older average age but this may make no difference on the field when it comes down to talent and tactical ability.

Both matches are scheduled for the T.E. McField “Annex” Football Field in GTSC on Ash Wednesday, February 25th, with kick-off scheduled at 4:30 p.m. for the women and 7:00 for the men. Tickets are $7.00 at the gate and Children under 12 are FREE!
