FIFA Appoints Cayman FIFA Referees

Three local referees, Ian Phillips, Noel Williams and Godfrey Bowen, have recently been assigned by FIFA to matches away from home.

Ian Phillips is currently on assignment in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada as a referee at the CONCACAF U17 World Cup Final Qualifying Tournament from March 24th –31st. While Noel Williams, also returning home on March 31st, is serving as assistant referee for the Gold Cup Qualifiers regional quarterfinals in Kingston, Jamaica.

Cayman’s own Godfrey Bowen refereed the biggest game in the Caribbean region earlier this year between Jamaica and the USA. Most recently, March 23rd , he was also referee for the Jamaica vs. Barbados match in Jamaica.

One other local referee, Alfredo Whittaker, Scholars International’s renowned goalkeeper, has also become a FIFA referee. Mr. Whittaker was welcomed to the FIFA family earlier this year by the FIFA General Secretary Dr. Urs Linsi.

He joins Ian Phillips and Godfrey Bowen as referees and Noel Williams and Peterkin Berry as assistant-referees for 2003.

CIFA president Jeffrey Webb congratulates all the referees on their recent successes and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors. He went on to say that, “Since the inception of the CIFA Referee Development Program seven years ago we are now pleased to see the fruits of our labour.”
