Football Welcomes New National Coach
When asked why he chose to come to Cayman, newly appointed
National Coach Marcos Tinoco quotes his colleague and
friend former Technical Director Marcio Maximo, “I
came to Cayman because the first thing Marcio said to
me is that here have a good chance to grow football.
I think I have a chance to help Cayman get to an international
level.”
Mr. Tinoco’s football career has taken him to
Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East and to some
prominent clubs back home in Brazil. His most recent
success came earlier this year when his team Americano
Football Club defeated Vasco da Gama to claim the Champion
of Guanabara Cup in Rio de Janeiro. They also took the
Champion of Rio de Janeiro trophy and were runners up
for the Rio de Janeiro Regional Championship in 2002.
Tinoco is anxious to get started and has already began
recruitment for the National U23 Olympic team which
has it’s first match scheduled for September 6th
in Grenada.
“I think Caribbean football and CONCACAF football
is growing. I think is a good opportunity to put football
here in the top sport of the country.” Tinoco
added that he wanted to give every one that was interested
men, women and children a chance to play.
The Cayman Islands Football Association has already
started to put things in place for Tinoco, “The
Association is pleased to have someone of Marcos’s
caliber on board, he comes very highly recommended both
by the Brazilian Football Federation and Marcio Maximo.
The Association will strive to provide him with all
the necessary resources to get his job done well,”
said CIFA President Jeffrey Webb.
Negotiations are already underway with the Cayman Islands
Government for the establishment of a National Football
Training Center. Bruce Blake, General Secretary added
that former Director Maximo was successful in setting
a firm foundation one, which he is confident, Tinoco
will take to a higher level.

CIFA President Jeffrey Webb officially welcomes Marcos
Tinoco, Football’s new National Coach.
