In Memory of Mr. Ed Wilson
The management and staff of the Cayman Islands Football
Association extend sincerest heartfelt sympathies to
the family of the late Mr. Eddie Wilson. It was truly
a great honour to have known Mr. Wilson and CIFA will
be forever grateful for the mammoth contribution he
made to the development of Cayman's youth and football.
Mr. Wilson joined the Cayman Islands High School (now
John Gray High) in 1979 as a teacher of technology
but also contributed through football to the lives
of many.
A former National Football Coach and CIFA General
Secretary Ed Wilson has made an indelible mark on the
standard of play of all those who were fortunate to
have fallen into his hands.
While coaching various league and cup winners in Cayman
between 1979 and 1989, he helped the U23 and National
teams to achieve credible results in games against
other Caribbean islands. He was also coach of the Cayman
National team that played against the United States
National team in Los Angeles in November 1993, one
of the biggest games on record for the Cayman Islands.
He will be remembered as a mentor to many of Cayman's
footballers, and an individual who was always willing
to go the extra mile, "There's nothing that he was
ever asked to do that he refused, He never said no," says
CIFA president Jeffrey Webb.
As a teacher and football coach he has touched many
lives. To the world of Cayman's football development
Ed Wilson came; he saw and he made a difference. We
were privileged to have known and worked with Mr. Wilson
and will miss him dearly. May his soul rest in peace.
In honour of his memory a football match has been
scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Sunday October 12 th , 2003
between Cayman Islands High School and Strikers at
the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
