East End FC's Fate Determined

By Kenisha Morgan
Cayman Islands Football Association

After a meeting of the CIFA Executive Committee last Wednesday, February 20, 2002 the decision was taken to expel East End FC from the Foster's National League and CIFA membership due to forfeiture of matches.

The Rules of the Football Association, a document drafted by CIFA's Competitions Committee to ensure the smooth running of the league from September through April each season, clearly states that after two forfeited matches, a club is liable to be fined and expelled from the league. An excerpt from the rules, Section B, sub-section 12.3 reads as follows…

" Any club failing to fulfil its fixture obligations for a second time during a season shall be fined…and expelled from the Association and shall not be considered for re-application for a period ending at least to the end of the following season. Its individual members shall not be allowed to register for another member for that same period."

The Executive Committee took a unanimous decision to expel the club but to also extend a helping hand during its reprieve from the league. Over that period CIFA will try to assist East End to get their administration and other internal affairs in order in preparation for their return to future leagues.

East End has been advised, during the time given to focus on their youth teams, as their development will determine the clubs readiness, and will play a role in CIFA's decision when considering their re-entry to the league.
