DHL Women’s League at a tie

George Town Sports Club and Scholars International women’s teams have arrived at a tie following their final matches on Saturday March 29th, 2003 at the Truman Bodden sports Complex. Both teams, now equal in points with 29 each, must play off on April 13th to determine the league champion.

Although CIFA’s competition rules had originally specified non-developmental status for the Women’s League, this reverted to developmental status as the season kicked off. As a result, the rules for determining how tied positions would be resolved (Competition Rules section E3) no longer apply.

Each team involved in the DHL women’s League was advised of the change in status at the start of the season. One reason for the change was to make goals scored less important, since a developmental system is supposed to concentrate more on encouraging women’s participation, on the development of player skills and tactics, in improving the management and administration of women’s teams, and in improving the women’s league itself.

As a result CIFA has decided that tied positions will not be determined on the basis of goal difference or goals scored. The only tied position that matters is for the Women’s League Champion. Meaning therefore, that with GTSC and Scholars women tied on points at the end of the season, and the tie affecting the award of the Championship, it will then be decided by a single match playoff.

The playoff is scheduled for 5pm on Sunday 13th April, prior to the Men’s League Final Four championship match, at the Annex in George Town.
