Cayman Islands Prepares for CONCACAF Women’s Olympic
Qualifiers
This past weekend the Cayman Islands National Women’s
Football Team departed for Florida to begin preparations
for their Olympic Qualifiers in December this year.
The group, camping at one of Florida’s top sporting
facilities - the Sunrise Hilton Football Training Center,
is scheduled to meet Miami Premier Club, Team Boca,
Soccer Locker Women’s Team and Broward Select
Women’s Team for a total of four matches between
November 1st and 9th.
The center, a fully equipped first class training facility,
has served as training ground for National Teams from
Canada, the United States, Columbia, China, Jamaica,
Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala and clubs such as DC
United, Blackburn and Fulham.
The team is expected to stick to a strict training
regiment between matches, focusing on the task ahead
in December when they will meet National Women’s
Teams from Jamaica and the US Virgin Islands.
“This camp is very good because it will add variety
and expose the players to some of the top women’s
teams in Florida.” Says National Women’s
Coach Thiago Cunha
“ We will be working on fitness, formation, technical
and tactical aspects of the game as well as commitment.
The team needs strong matches to prepare for the Qualifiers.
Jamaica & the USVI have very strong national women’s
teams.”
The qualifiers are scheduled for December 3rd –
7th, 2003 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex when Cayman
will challenge Jamaica and the US Virgin Islands for
a spot in the next round of Olympic Qualifiers.
Team members on camp include: Janycee Parchment, Petrina
Bernard, Cassandra Bodden, Nathalee Richards, Shakeina
Bush, Kerry Dilbert, Martha Godet, Joni Ebanks, Justina
Hurlston, Therese Goddard, Wanda Sue Nixon, Sasha Barnes,
Lolita Hanna, Judy Rivers, Bobeth O’Garro, Sabrina
Leacock, Michelle McField, Kimberly Dixon, Gillian Lawrence
and Donna Wilson.
