Big Four To Meet This Weekend

In a twist of fate the big four, Future, Scholars, George Town and Bodden Town, will meet this weekend for the final set of Foster's League matches before the semi-finals in April.

The current league standings now show Scholars International and Bodden Town as first and second respectively in Zone A, while George Town and Future FC are also in the same position in Zone B.

At the end of each season the two teams from each zone with the highest points are paired off along home and away ties. The winner of one zone is scheduled to meet the runner-up of the other zone twice. The playoff winners advance to the finals.

This weekends line up, Future vs. Scholars and GTSC vs. BTFC, is a mirror image of the first and second leg semi-final matches. These matches will set the stage for a classic encounter as it now means that the teams will have to play each other three times. It could determine who will run things four weeks ahead of the playoffs.

"Well it looks like we'll have to play Scholars three times in a row," said Technical Director for Future FC Roy Ebanks. He is just happy to have made it this far.

For a team that is only about six months old the Future men's team has really done their coach proud for their first season. Struggling in the outset the team has more than bounced back and has certainly made a name for its self. Though the Future women's team has been around for a while 2001-2002 marked the first season for Future FCs men's team.

"Future is a work in progress," said coach Ebanks, "our goal this season was to reach the final four. If the season ends today I'd be more than satisfied…my players allowed me to accomplish my goals for this season."

When the two Bayers clash this weekend who knows what will happen. Future has already shown us that they are not a team to be underestimated, after three matches the true champion will certainly shine.

Bodden Town, Scheduled to meet George Town does not seem to be too worried. Entering the season as the reigning FA Cup champions the team had hoped for a repeat of last season's glory and have now refocused most if not all their energy on the Foster's League Cup. "It will be three exciting matches," said Albert McLean coach for BTFC, "We'll just have to let our playing do the talking."

For sure the playing will do all the talking this weekend.

Sunday March 10, 2002
