Cayman Airways Sponsors CIFA Players of the Month and the Year
By Kenisha Morgan
Players who shine on the football field this season can look forward to more than just a pat on the back for a job well done.
Cayman Airways Ltd. and the Cayman Islands Football Association have joined forces in a partnership that will reward two outstanding players each month and two top players at the end of the season for their performance.
The National Flag Carrier which sponsored the Players of the Year a few seasons ago, has renewed its agreement with CIFA and will provide free tickets to any Cayman Airways destination for the male and female players earning top votes each month as well as the top male and female players at the end of the 2005-06 season.
"On behalf of the National Flag Carrier of the Cayman Islands, it is our esteemed pleasure to lend both sponsorship and community support to The Cayman Islands Football Association," said Cayman Airway Ltd. Manager for US and International Sales Donald Hicks.
"We see a wealth of value and benefit in helping with the development of our youth through sports competition and camaraderie. Cayman Airways is proud to be a part of this growth campaign. We wish the players well through the 2006 season and success to the entire CIFA program".
CIFA President Jeffrey Webb expressed CIFA's appreciation regarding Cayman Airways' partnership. "We are pleased to have Cayman Airways partnering with us once again as sponsors for our Players of the Month and Players of the Year awards. We thank them for their tremendous investment in the sport. It is important to recognize and encourage great performers by rewarding them for their outstanding efforts."
Mr. Webb went on to highlight the fact that it is corporate partners like Cayman Airways that enables CIFA to carry on the business of football in the islands. "Corporate partners are a very important part of football's development and growth here in Cayman. While we thank Cayman Airways sincerely for renewing their partnership with us, we also invite others to join the CIFA Family."
Two players, one male and one female, will be selected each month until the end of the season for the CIFA Cayman Airways Player of the Month award. At a recent press conference Sheldon Hoppins, Victor Chicas and David Arch who have been named Players of The Month for November, December and January respectively, were presented with their tickets. Mr. Hoppins and Mr. Chicas are both members of Money Express FC while, Mr. Arch plays for Latinos FC.
All three players were pleased that their efforts on the field had been noticed, and expressed their thanks both to Cayman Airways Ltd. and CIFA for the free tickets they had been awarded.
While January's winner David Arch does not think that his current performance is at its peak, citing an injury and room for much improvement, he said that fans could look for even greater things from him in the coming weeks.
Sheldon Hoppins, a forward for Money Express, thanked the match officials for their votes of confidence and assured them that he would strive to keep up his excellent form throughout the remainder of the season.
Midfielder for Money Express, Victor Chicas, said he was just trying to be the best and would endeavor to give more on the field for his team.
Since the start of the current football season in October 2005, match commissioners, referees and team managers have been casting their votes at the end of each game for each team's "man of the match". At the end of each month the votes were tallied yielding the current awardees.
With the Senior Women's League just getting off to a start, match and team officials are already keeping a watchful eye on the talent dominating the fields. A few players have already distinguished themselves from the others and may be up for the award come March.
