CIFA Digicel Cayman Cup Second Round this weekend

Twelve weeks of women's football action is scheduled to kick-off on Monday January 16 th when six under 17 women's teams will take to the field.

The first match up is set between George Hicks High School's B team and Future FC on the Middle School Field at 3:30 p.m.

The six teams participating include St. Ignatius Catholic High School dubbed Catholic, Triple C High School, Future FC, Scholars International and an A and B side from George Hicks High. Teams will play each other twice over two rounds.

The main aim of the league, says Women's Committee Chairman Al Bartice, is to develop young female Caymanian players while at the same time scouting for talent for an Under 17 Women's National Team.

"There is currently no league to serve those young ladies between the ages of 14 and 17 who may wish to play football at a competitive level. The senior women's League caters to female players in a higher age group. So the Under 17 league, which is making its inaugural appearance this year, will fill the existing gap between the primary school and senior women's league."

Matches are scheduled for 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays each week at the George Hicks High School, Triple C and St. Ignatius High football fields.
