CIFA Annual Youth Football Rally on July 2nd
by Kenisha Morgan

The CIFA Annual Youth Football Rally is confirmed to go ahead this Saturday July 2 nd , 2005 at the T.E. McField 'Annex' Football Field on School House Road in George Town.

The event which had originally been scheduled to take place in early June was rescheduled after forecasts of rain for that weekend.

Matches will kick off as early as 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning with the Boys under 12 youth rally followed at 10:15 a.m. by the opening ceremony and parade.

Other age groups scheduled to participate include under 12 girls and under 23 boys. A women's under 17 exhibition match has also been scheduled for later that day.

CIFA President Jeffrey Webb says the main objective of the annual festival is to draw all youngsters who play football across the Island together in one place to instill a spirit of community and camaraderie. "The festival offers an opportunity for the older players to share their expertise and techniques with those who are newer to the sport. It also allows our youth to showcase the level of talent and enthusiasm that exists within them... this is their opportunity to shine, but most importantly they can do this while having a little fun and sharing a day with their family and friends." The Annual Youth Rally is an extension of CIFA's goal to give Cayman's young players every possible opportunity to get on the field and show off their skill.

"The event is open to all youngsters that are interested in playing football," says National Technical Director Marcos Tinoco. Therefore, any one wanting to participate who has not yet been registered is invited to contact the CIFA office at 949-5775 or just turn up ready to play on Saturday. Such players will be accommodated and added to any team in need of extra players.

Parents, teachers and other football enthusiasts are also encouraged to come out and support the youth. "Remind them of their importance. Let them know that we are proud of them...participation in sports is a very good teacher of discipline, persistence and endurance. I think it is good for our youth," says National Director Marcos Tinoco.
