CIFA Foster’s League Final Four First Round – The Deciding Moment Fast Approaches!
By Kenisha Morgan

For four teams Scholars International, Latinos FC, Western Union and George Town Sports Club the deciding moment fast approaches.

The four teams will meet at the Ed Bush Field in West Bay on Sunday May 1st in the CIFA Foster’s National League Final Four First Round Competition.

Scholars will take on Latinos FC, 2004 Foster’s League Champions at 2:00 p.m., while Western Union and George Town will battle it out at 4:00 p.m. Each team competes for two spots in the Foster’s League finals scheduled for May 15th, 2005.

To add a bit of excitement and some extra incentive for the fans CIFA will also be launching their raffle for a free trip to the Gold Cup Finals in Miami on July 9th.

Spectators will be expected to pay $5.00 at the gate, while children under 16 will get in free. The gate tickets will enter attendees in a raffle to be drawn at the FA Cup finals on May 29th for airline tickets, match tickets and hotel accommodation for the July 9th Gold Cup Finals. Tickets from the Foster’s League final match will also be entered. Proud sponsors of the raffle include Gatorade, Cayman Airways, Foster’s Food Fair and CIFA.

In the next few days leading up to the matches all four teams are busy preparing, planning to put their best team forward.

Latinos Coach Juan Rives has a title to defend but thinks his challengers, Scholars International, will have an advantage this weekend. Two of his top players David Arch and Nemroy Forbes are out with injuries, while some promising others are either off island or on red card suspension. None the less the team has come this far and they are not about to go out without a fight. The coach says he will field his B team this weekend and pray for the best.

Antonio Smith, Scholars’ top coach learnt a hard lesson the last time he faced Latinos in the 2004 league finals. He is determined not to make the same mistakes this time around. “It is going to be a rough game. Latinos is a very fit and fast team.” The coach says his main focus going into the match is ball possession since Latinos’ strength lies in their runners.

George Town coach Lee Ramoon is playing it cool and not stressing himself too much. He says the team will play a more offensive game but over all the team is “kicking back and set to enjoy the game.”

Though George Town has not played against Western Union for this season and Lee therefore has little insight into his opponent’s style, he has not added any extra training sessions. “The focus is on having fun and challenging ourselves to do well.”

Western Union on the other hand is staying on course and has intensified training. Head Coach Jocelyn Morgan says that competing against a veteran team such as George Town will be challenging, “We have advanced to a new level and I expect the players to play their hearts out. We’ll be playing against a strong opponent who has a wealth of experience. ”
