CIFA Foster’s National League Grand Finale
By Kenisha Morgan

The CIFA Foster’s National League Grand Finale between West Bay’s Scholars International and George Town’s Western Union FC is scheduled for kick-off at the Ed Bush Stadium on Monday May 16th, 2005.

The match which had originally been scheduled for Sunday was moved to the holiday Monday and will kick off at 4:00 p.m. sharp. A fee of $5.00 will be charged for individuals 16 years and over.

Spectators must also remember that this year all match tickets purchased from the Foster’s League semi-final and final rounds as well as the FA Cup semi-final and final rounds will give them a chance to win an all expense paid trip to the Gold Cup finals in Miami on July 9th. The drawing is set to take place during the FA Cup finals scheduled for the T.E. McField “Annex” pitch on Sunday May 29th, 2005.

This year’s two contenders, Scholars International and Western Union FC, have not met on the field all season. But with no other route to the league championship they are both prepared to do whatever it takes to go home the victor.

Scholars International, who has successfully captured the title several times over the years, feels confident about their match this Monday.

Head Coach Antonio Smith remembers all too clearly how close his team came to victory last season when the title was snatched away. It was during stoppage time that Latinos equalized pushing the game into extra time where they won the match 3-2.

This time Smith says he’ll be working on his opponent’s weak areas to get the upper hand early. “If they make a mistake we’ll be there to capitalize on it.” His strategy going in is to stick with Scholars’ usual playing style, controlling the game by maintaining a pace that is comfortable for his players.

Western Union FC, who has fought for the opportunity to contend a final match for the last few seasons, is a little on edge. The team is leaving nothing to chance and is busy preparing for their showdown with Scholars on Monday.

“Morale is really high. The players are making an extra effort and going the extra mile to make sure they are ready,” says Western Union Head Coach Joscelyn Morgan. Right now his overall focus is continued development, “…last season the team finished strong. This year we just picked up from where we left off. The improvements are slow but we are getting to where we want to be.”

“With Scholars you can always expect a great game, especially in the finals. I know they will rise to the challenge, we just hope to out match them.”

The 2005 CIFA Foster’s National League final is scheduled for the Ed Bush Field in West Bay at 4:00 p.m. on Monday May 16th.
