Western Union - Scholars Showdown for FA Cup Final

This coming Sunday, May 29th, fans will be treated to yet another Western Union FC vs. Scholars International showdown at the George Town Annex.

Both teams made it through the FA Cup semi-final round with flying colours last weekend. Scholars beat out Future FC 2 nil to move forward while Western Union gave Roma United a solid 3 nil thrashing.

CIFA FA CUP FINAL MATCH
Date & Time     Venue     Teams
Sunday May 29th, 3:30 p.m.     George Town Annex     Scholars vs. Western Union
Tickets are $5.00 at the gate, children under 16 get in free. All tickets will be entered in the raffle, to be drawn at halftime, for an all expense paid trip to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals in Miami on July 9th.

Both teams met two weekends ago for the Foster’s National League final and Western Union walked away with the title. Scholars International Head Coach Antonio Smith says he intends to stop Western Union from taking both titles this season.

Having never won the league title he thinks Western Union may have been “hungrier” for the title on May 16th.

“This game will be a totally different game from the last. Scholars will definitely dominate the match... we do not intend to go into penalties this time.” Coach Smith says that his players have been working hard to correct the mistakes that were made the last time they met Western Union.

It is true that Western Union has risen from a position where they may have been considered the ‘underdogs’ to relative prominence on the field. Head Coach Jocelyn Morgan has taken a slow patient route that has more than born fruit for his team this season.

He thinks that being more or less the new kid on the block his team will have to play a more offensive game. “In preparing for any match we take everything seriously, especially since our opponents are accustomed to winning championships. We plan to come out attacking and counter attacking. Our preparation is on target, we have a couple injuries but we are recouping. Come Sunday we will be ready.”

Fans are reminded that the raffle for the all expense paid trip to the Gold Cup Finals on July 9th in Miami, Florida will be drawn during half time of the match.
