National Squad off to Digicel Cup

Cayman’s National Senior Men’s Squad are off to a great start with a 1/0 victory in their practice match, against Jamaica’s National Olympic Team last Thursday in Kingston, Jamaica.

The team, which departed early on Wednesday November 17th, destined for the first round of the Digicel Caribbean Cup, November 24-28th in St. Vincent, stopped over in Jamaica for a final preparatory match. Young Jario Sanchez was at the right place at the right time scoring the winning goal in the 82nd minute.

Focused on making it past the first round, the team is now prepping for departure to St. Vincent where they will meet national sides from the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda and St. Vincent, Group E members, in tense competition.

Cayman’s matches are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday November 24th, 1:30 p.m. on November 27th and 1:30 p.m. on November 28th with St. Vincent, The British Virgin Islands and Bermuda respectively. Group E’s winner will move on to the second round December 12th –19th, 2004.

Second Round Series victors along with the Group B Winner will progress to the Third Round of the CFU Digicel Cup on the 9th  & 16th of January 2005. While Third Round winners will join the host Barbados in the CFU Final Round of the Digicel Cup from 20th –24th of February 2005. The tournament culminates with the qualification of three teams for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup™ scheduled for July 6th-24th in the USA.

Cayman’s Digicel Cup delegation includes:

Ainslay Hall, Arden Rivers, Carlos Welcome, Carson Fagan, Clay Coleman, David Reid, Dwight O'Garro, Eric Brown, Fredrick Wilks, Garth Anderson, Gary Whittaker, Horace Nelson, Jairo Sanches, John Kelly, Junior Fischer, Kingsley Wellington, Leon Whittaker, Limbert Cuevas, Milton Sinclair, Philip Berry, Romeo Thomas and Thomas Elliot.

The players were accompanied by Marcos Tinoco - Technical Director, Colin Rowe - Assistant Coach, Thiago Cunha – Assistant Coach, Robert Scott – Equipment Manager and Al Bartice – Physiotherapist.
