Lee Ramoon Honoured with FIFA Order of Merit Award
At FIFA’s 54th Ordinary Congress in Paris on Thursday
May 20th, 2004 Cayman’s own Lee Ramoon was recognized
as a recipient of the prestigious FIFA Centennial Order
of Merit.
Lee Ramoon, who has dedicated more than half his life
as a representative of Cayman football, was first selected
for the Cayman Islands National Football Team in 1979
at age 13. Between 1979 and 2004 he has continuously
contributed as both player and assistant national coach.
Lee who has participated in more than 200 international
football matches on behalf of the Cayman Islands, serving
on many occasions as captain, is nationally recognized
by both his peers and the fans as an outstanding footballer
and role model.
CIFA President Jeffrey Webb is more than honored to
have nominated Lee Ramoon for FIFA’s highest award
in world football. “On behalf of the Cayman Islands
Football Association I would like to convey our warmest
congratulations to Lee Ramoon as recipient of this unique
and prestigious FIFA award,” said CIFA president
Jeffrey Webb. “ This is the highest international
honour FIFA has ever offered and I believe there is
no one more deserving than Lee Ramoon. He has been a
true sportsman and a tremendous player for the Cayman
Islands. He will go down in history as one of Cayman’s
greatest players of all time and an unparalleled ambassador.”
The FIFA Centennial Order of Merit will be presented
to Mr. Ramoon on a date to be announced in Grand Cayman
during an official service befitting this prestigious
award.
