Foster's and DHL National Football Leagues winding Down
By Kenisha Morgan

After 25 weeks and nearly two hundred matches the local leagues are nearing a close for the 2003-2004 football season.

The top four teams from both zones' A & B in the Foster's National League will be decided this weekend when Western Union meets Latinos. Both FCI and Western Union are close contenders for the final zone B top spot.

Zone B's Northside was the first team to qualify for the final four playoffs , following a 3/2 win over Future FC on Saturday February 28th.

The other Zone B playoff place is currently held by FC International but Western Union still has an outside chance of claiming that spot. They are scheduled to meet Latinos on Sunday but would have to beat them by a wide margin to get a foot in the door. With Latinos' current unbeaten status and Western Union losing to Latinos several times already this season that may be quite a challenge.

Latinos 2/3 defeat of George Town on Tuesday evening and Scholars' 1/0 victory over Future FC means they both move on as the zone A contenders.

To close out the season the two legged final four show-down kicks off on Saturday March 13th with the grand finale scheduled for the weekend of April 3rd and 4th.

Leading Scorers for the Foster's National League include:

Gary Whittaker FCI 10
Marshall Forbes Latinos 9
Lennox Carridice North Side 8

Several other players will also have their names recorded in this season's history scoring 7 goals each - Rico Bodden (BTFC), Carlos Andrade (Scholars) , Anthony Ramoon and Michael Wilks (GTSC). David Arch (Latinos), Nemroy Forbes (Latinos) and Eric Brown (Scholars) each scored 6 goals.

In the DHL Nationl Women's League Scholars International was certainly dominant on the field , with a total of 25 goals in their favour and none against. Four of their players Michelle "Mousey" McField, Ariella Smith, Petrina Bernard and Therese Goddard played major roles in adding to that total and may end the season as the top 4 DHL League scorers:

Michelle McField 9
Ariella Smith 5
Petrina Bernard 4
Therese Goddard 4

The DHL National League is expected to close officially on March 24th , the winner to be determined by total points scored after the final match. Scholars International and George Town Sports Club currently top the standings with 18 and 15 points respectively, but Scholars still have six matches to look forward to before their season ends while George Town has only four.

Should they both tie on points at the final whistle both teams will meet in a tiebreaker show-down on the weekend of April 3rd and 4th, 2004 to determin the season's champion.
