Foster’s League Tie Breaker this weekend
By Kenisha Morgan

After the Easter break Latinos, North Side, FCI and Scholars International are gearing up for round two of the Foster’s National League semifinals.

This time around a tie will not be enough, two winners must be declared for the April 25th grand finale. In the first round FCI and Scholars ended their match on nil all while North Side and Latinos scored two goals apiece.

As round two of the Foster’s National League semi-finals approaches fans are anxious to see the results, bearing in mind the importance of what’s hanging in the balance – the 2004 Foster’s National League title. One mistake could mean sudden death for the finalists.

North Side SC who played one man down in the first round, maintains that they were not playing up to par. “We did really well … a tie was acceptable for that match considering we were one man down,” says Sean Mellaneo North Side’s captain, “But we are not aiming for that again this time. There has to be a winner and we expect it to be us.”

After losing their leading scorer Lennox Carridice to a red card in the first round, Mellaneo says there’s one spot up for grabs, which North Side players will be competing amongst themselves to fill. “The players will have to work for that spot. The coach has no favorites so the best man will get it.”

Latinos President William Connolly says that his team has not played well for their last two matches either, noting that they have been missing a few key players who were either off island or tied up with personal family matters.

But North Side fans should not start rejoicing just yet; commending his opponents on their performance in the last match, Connolly added that they would be seeing a completely different team this weekend. “North Side can expect to see the team that started the season. It will be a team that is refocused and recommitted to what our goals were from the very beginning.” Latinos is back to 100% and ready to rumble.

Fred Ebanks, FCI player thinks his team put up a fair but not a great fight in the first round, they had a few injured players. “You can expect a better game from us this weekend… it’s do or die.” He would not comment on what the team had planned but stated that FC International would be coming with something new.

FCI is scheduled to meet Scholars International on Saturday April 17th at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex while Latinos will meet North Side at the T.E. McField “Annex” Football Field in George Town. Matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with adult admission of $5.00 and children under 16 free.

One team from each pair must go home a winner this weekend. Which two will it be? Come out and witness the action for yourself.

North Side SC
North Sides men’s team who has been burning their name across the field all season and into 2004’s football history book says they are expecting to be a Foster’s League finalist on April 25th at the Annex.

How is the winner determined?

1. The winner of each playoff tie will be the team scoring the greater number of goals over both matches.
2. If after normal playing time in the second round both teams tie on goals, both teams will play an extra 30 minutes of ‘Golden Goal’ extra-time (15 minutes each). If this fails to resolve the tie a penalty shoot out will take place until a winner is determined.
3. If no winner is determined after the penalty shoot out then a ‘sudden death’ penalty shoot out will determine the winner.
