Despite going down to 10 players,
Future de-feated Naya 3-0 in the U-17 League at the
Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Wednesday's game, of-ficiated solely by Paul Macey,
was competitive with both teams display-ing a high degree
of tal-ent.
Future appeared primed for the win from the onset as
at least four of their players are regu-lars in the
Foster Broth-ers National League. They seemed to be
more confident and better able to spread the ball around
the field than their small and less poised oppo-nents.
Despite this, Naya's keeper Mario
Dinnall and mid-fielder Troy Taylor managed to hold
Future off until the 30th minute.
Gustavo Cappleaf, wearing bronzed boots, crossed the
ball from deep in the right hand corner of the field.
Ed-ward Kerr then sent a side-winding shot that hit
the target. Future kept up the pressure. Just as the
referee was ready to sound the half-time whis-tle, Future's
Jared Yates and a Naya player got into a tussle, which
re-sulted in the referee brandishing a red card and
a yellow. Yates was sent off for violent con-duct and
may miss as many as three games for the incident, according
to Macey. Down to 10 players, Future was not a fluid
as before with their passing game. In fact for the first
20 minutes of the second half their play appeared a
little jerky and the game was scrappy.
While Naya's forwards did manage once
or twice to get the ball into Fu-ture's third, they
were not able to really test the keeper.
Then in the 83rd min-ute John Kelly, a de-fender for
Future, came from the back. He fi-nessed his way through
Naya's mid-fielder and defences and slotted the ball
into the net. Six minutes later Kelly found the net
again, taking the score up to 3-nil.
More U-17 play con-tinues this week Tues-day-Thursday
at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex and the George Hicks
Field.
