West Bay Primary routed St. Ignatius
Prep 9-0 in the U-11 Inter-Primary School league.
The match that took place at the St. Ignatius field
on Saturday saw Lorenzo Brown, who was celebrating his
10th birthday score five goals.
Ignatius, who were the runners-up
in last year's league, are in the process of rebuilding.
West Bay on the other hand have been together for a
couple of years and it showed in their free-flowing
style of play. Plus the Bayers have two U-12 national
players on their squad - Brown and James Ebanks.
Bayer's Dan Kelly got the ball rolling
in the 5th minute when he dribbled through the right
flank. Kelly fi-nessed his way around Catholic's right
back and buried the ball into the back of the net. Two
minutes later James Ebanks repeated in identical form.
However, Ebanks' ball had a bit more pace and it hit
the goal post, ricocheting into the net.
The score was now 2-0 in the seventh minute. Catholic
tried getting into the game with Thomas Cowen and Gordon
Forbes making an effort to plug their leaky right side,
but the Bayers just changed tactics.
Nevertheless, Catholic played smart
ball as well catching the Bayers offside a number of
times.
Nothing St. Ignatius did though could
hold West Bay back for too long. In the 20th minute
Ebanks floated the ball into the right pigeonhole. Seeing
they owned the game, West Bay's coach Mr. Rhuel Smyth
changed Brown's position from midfield to striker and
within minutes Brown was racking up goals. Brown danced
his way down the left side and placed the ball by Catholic's
keeper Alex Mitchell in the 25th minute. Two minutes
later, Brown slipped the ball across the goal line again
bringing the score to 5-0 at half-time.
The second half was played in the
wet - sometimes a little drizzle sometimes heavy rain
- but nothing doused the Bayers' quest for victory.
Brown scored a hat-trick with machine-gun precision
rat-tactics, one right after the other.
Then Kelly poured the ball in the
net in the closing minutes of the game, taking the scoreline
to 9-0.
West Bay's U-9 team also defeated
St. Ignatius 1-0 earlier at the same venue.
