Bodden Town Loses in FA Cup

Defending FA Cup winners Bodden Town lost to Scholars 1-0 at East End Sunday night in the Championship's opening match.
The only goal of what was a very physical game came five minutes into the second half after a Bodden Town defender gave away a penalty. Scholars captain Alfredo Whittaker ran up to take it and put it away in the bottom left-hand corer of the net.

Bodden Town had a few chances during the night but none better than the one they had five minutes before the final whistle.
Whittaker, who had a fabulous game, was unusually caught off his line.

A Bodden Town player seized the moment and with an open goal in front of him started his attempt for goal. But a Scholars players denied him the shot and cleared the ball to the side of the net.

Bodden Town should have equalised. Scholars were lucky.

The game was okay. Fans expected a bit more from both the League winners Scholars and FA Cup Champions Bodden Town. Both teams were really up for the challenge but the physical nature of the game perhaps spoiled what could have been a really good game of football.

The midfield area was constantly crowded and consequently the game never opened up as much as it could. The real difference between the teams was that Bodden Town left taking their chances too late. The team had most possession during the night but did little with it. Whereas Scholars, who had much less possession, took whatever chances they could when they got them. On some occasions they were even shooting for goal from around the midfield.

For that, and only that, Scholars deserved the win.
