By Beverly Melbourne

Bottom of the table teams a Roma United and Sunset FC will be engaged in a serious relegation race this weekend when the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) 2009 /2010 Premier League season culminates at two separate venues.

Roma as the tables reflects will only need a draw to breathe a sigh of relief while Sunset needs a clear win to have hopes of remaining in the Premier League for the upcoming season.

This weekend at the TE McField Sports Complex George Town faces Sunset at 5:00pm while at 7:00pm Bodden Town meets Tigers. In West Bay at the Ed Bush Stadium at 5:00pm Roma takes on Elite and at 7:00pm Scholars International tattles Future.

Last Sunday an upbeat Roma did their best to defeat a deflated Tigers 4-2 at the TE McField Sports Centre. Tigers were surprised when Amar Mundle drew first blood for Roma in the 5th minute of the game. Seven minutes later Roma was leading 2-0 when Keigel Atkinson netted.

The game became more exciting as Tigers began to unleash their instincts and took over the game attacking Roma from all angles. This change in the game benefitted Tigers as at the stroke of half time the dancing Kirk Rowe scored after capitalizing on a defensive error which was fuelled by poor communication among the Roma defenders.

After the half time break, both teams regrouped but Roma seemed to have gotten complacent and gave up a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Striker Jose Bush wasted no time in equalizing for his team from the penalty spot.

Roma made two substitutions; this changed the game in their favor again resulting in a 71st minute goal taken from the penalty spot by striker Dwayne Wright. This lifted the spirits of the Roma team more. Ten minutes later Wright sealed the issue by completing his double and ending the game 4-2.

The feature game played later between George Town and Bodden Town ended 2-0 after George Town failed to capitalize on several chances at goal.

George Town took the lead after being awarded an own goal in the 18th minute. In the 39th minute Luigi Hernandez equalized making the half time score 1-1.

During the second segment it was crunch time for George Town who had to win to be in any contention against Scholars International for the Premier League Trophy. George Town tried desperately to find the back of the net wasting some magnificent chances. It was Bodden Town’s Danu Smith who found the clincher for his team to take all three points in the 90th minute.

Down in west Bay at the Ed Bush Stadium Scholars International had no mercy on Sunset slamming them 3-0. The Goal scorers were Nemroy Forbes in the 25th, O’Neil Taylor in the 49th and Nahun Rodriquez in the 90th.

At this same venue Future gained three points after beating defending champions Elite 2-0. Goals came from Mark Ebanks in the 1st and 59th minute.
